A fashion set designer creates the world around the clothes. Working from an art director's concept, they develop backgrounds, props, surfaces and spatial compositions for photography, film, runway and branded content.
They sketch, source materials, build budgets, coordinate fabricators, test scale and color, install the set and solve practical problems quickly while the production is moving.
“The set is the silent character that makes the fashion story believable.”
Useful skills include spatial thinking, prop styling, material knowledge, technical drawing, sourcing, budgeting and a strong understanding of how objects translate through a camera lens.
